THEY LIVE WE SLEEP

More on They Live further down in the R.E.P.O.R.T, but I want to say that I remain wide awake. I have another toothache, and I continue to search for a new career job, but I am not giving up. Not on myself, or on the future I want.

I do take some comfort in the launch of Artemis II, a reminder that we can still choose to do amazing things when we want to, and also in the continued pushback and calling out of how dire everything is for so many people.

I hope you are doing well, and are able to take care of the people close to you and be a positive impact on your community.

I'm giving you a choice: either put on these glasses or start eatin' that trash can.

Reading

Despite being 1/3 of a James Bond podcast (listen to Pay Attention, 007 wherever you get your podcasts) I have not read a Bond novel in roughly 20 years, since I read Casino Royale to prep for the first film with Daniel Craig in the role. Returning to Fleming as a more knowledgeable reader was actually a joy. I was better able to follow his prose style and form opinions on it, as well as enjoy the story better. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service might be my favorite Bond story, and it was also fun reading it after podcasting about it for four hours.

Eating

For the last 15 years, I have made a menu for Oscar’s night, with food and drink representing as many of the Best Picture nominees as I can. This year featured two pizzas (the Marty Nachos Supreme Pizza—pizza topped with taco-seasoned ground beef, queso, and crumbled tortilla chips—is going to become a recurring feature in this house) and some great desserts. Also, the awards show itself was pretty great. Conan for forever host!

Playing

Six years after release, I have found Hades to be a very good game. I don’t really have a lot to say about it. I don’t play video games as often as I would like and my attention span for them is short.

Obsessing

art002e009573 (April 6, 2026) - The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraft’s solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA

I am obsessed with human space flight (I also loved the Project Hail Mary film adaptation in March) and I am so happy that we are sending humans out beyond the world. It is exciting for science and for our civilization, because humans are at our best when we are looking up at the stars and realize how much more in common we have with each other than we do with anything we’ve found out there.

The cover to the spring 2026 issue of MovieJawn

In conjunction with the newest issue of the MovieJawn zine (order here) focused on movies about Nuns, I watched a lot of movies about nuns for my first ever appearance on Screen Drafts, one of my favorite podcasts. MovieJawn’s EIC, Rosalie Kicks, and I got together to do a draft of the 7 best movies ever about nuns. I think it turned out great. Listen here or download on your app of choice!

Treating

While treating myself is still pretty limited but I was able to attend this year’s Sci-Phi Film Festival at the Hiway Theater in Jenkintown. Ten films from Friday night to Sunday evening, including the whole Back to the Future trilogy on Sunday! It was a joy to see a few films new to me, as well as ones I already loved on the big screen. Plus Marty McFly telling Doc Brown that in 1985, Ronald Reagan is President just keeps getting funnier.
